Le preposizioni di tempo specificano il momento o il periodo in cui avviene l'azione.
Le principali preposizioni di tempo sono in, at e on.

Uso della preposizione in

> con le parti del giorno
- in the afternoon (Alexandra was invited to a tea party so she need to buy cups in the afternoon)
> con i mesi
- in July (My family is planning to go to Paris in July and I am really exited about it)
> con gli anni
- in 2018 (In 2018 your brother was born and I remember to have brought to you a rattle)
> con i secoli
- in the twenty-first century (We are in the 21st century and they still do not know how to chuck the fug end in the ashtray!)
> con i periodi storici
- in the Middle Ages (If I were born in the Middle Ages I would go to a tavern to eat local food and enjoy drinking cider)

> con i giorni della settimana

> con le parti del giorno precedute dal nome del giorno
- on Saturday morning (On Saturday morning Peter reads his newspaper while Jennifer drinks her coffee with milk)
> con le date
- on 21st March (My birthday is on the 21th of March and I would like to invite you to eat a pizza in the new pizzeria)
> con giorni particolari
- on my birthday (When I was young on my birthday my mum used to organize my party at the oratory but now we prefer celebrate it at home with my friends)

Questioni a cui prestare attenzione

si usano le preposizioni on e in se l'espressione di tempo è preceduta da every (ogni), this/that (questo/quello) e last/next (l’ultimo/il prossimo).
È bene, inoltre, osservare, delle differenze tra le seguenti espressioni:
> on time (in orario) e in time (in tempo)
- He is never on time, but she is always in time for the beginning of the show.
> at the end (alla fine) e in the end (infine, alla fine)
- At the end fo the story they find what they were looking for.
