Dear Valentina,
How are you feeling these days?
I finally had time to read your last email with so much enthusiasm that it felt like I was with you during your vacation in Paris. I can only imagine the beautiful things you saw!
For my part, I have to say that I haven’t had such interesting experiences recently because I am always at home studying for exams except for last night and I am going to tell you why: my friends and I had a wholesome meal at the new Greek restaurant that opened in the city centre!
I don’t usually eat out because I prefer the comfort and the cosiness of my home, even if it means that I will have to put my yellowed microwave into operation in order to heat up some leftovers or some instant noodles. I know it’s unhealthy but I am doing my best here!
Also, do you know how expensive takeaways have become? I definitely need to find a solution because I don’t want to be poor but also I hate cooking.
You are aware of how much I love baking because I regularly deliver you my best chocolate cakes but cooking is not the same for me. When I bake I relax, I create a moment in which I can be authentic and I can clear my mind, it is therapeutic; but what about cooking? I stress a lot just thinking about the management of the different cooking times and stoves. I need to take care of the development of different combinations of food simultaneously and it’s not for me.
On the other hand, I don’t really want to end up always eating cold food like bread with cheese or tuna from the tin and I am also fed up with unseasoned raw veggies or hard-boiled eggs.
As a matter of fact, I believe that food brings you joy and every flavour is connected with some kind of emotion or memory that you should try to honour, preserve and recreate in order to feel better. I can still taste the flavour of the apple pie my grandma made when I was just a toddler and I would be a pity to forget all this tenderness that food gave me!
Last week, I also watched a documentary about the mediterranean diet in which experts suggested consuming as much legumes as possible as well as wholemeal cereals to improve the function of your gut, your digestion and even your metabolism.
Nutritionists also reminded the audience of the importance of following the criteria shown by the food pyramid because the tendency of the last few years is to eat too much meat and processed meals.
This made me think that I should start to try to nourish my body in a more intelligent way because it is from that aspect that depends the majority of the quality of my day, so I can’t promise to be perfect but at least my goal is to cut out unnecessary chemicals from my diet and maybe I will buy a cookbook. I will keep you updated of my progresses!
It was really nice to write you back!
I look forward to your answer
Cheers
Elisa
