Playing air guitar
Many people play an instrument to express themselves or to relax. You don't need any special skills to play, just put on a rock song with some good guitar solos and pretend to play them yourself with an invisible guitar. Here are some basic tips to do it well. Assume a good stance. Pick up your air guitar and tune it (you must treat it as if it were real!). Then find your inner rock star and let him or her guide your playing.
If you think that air guitar is for losers, think again. There are events and competitions ehere you can play on stage in front of thousands of cheering fans.
Most competitions will judge you on three things:
- Technical merit: How much your performance looks like real guitar playing.
- Stage presence: How rock star-like you look, and how good you are in captivating your audience.
- Airness: The extent to which your performance transcends the imitation and becomes an art form in and of itself.
If you're really good, you might even make it to the Air Guitar World Championships, held annually in Oulu, Finland. Besides celebrating air guitar, one of the championship's aims to promote peace:"Wars and all the bad things would go away if everyone just played air guitar", claim the organizers. So you maight play air guitar simply to free your mind, but ultimately you'll be contributing to world peace!
