Questo appunto di Inglese contiene un tema svolto sul bullismo e sulle sue varie tipologie. Un’analisi dettagliata di questo fenomeno in aumento tra i giovani e soprattutto nelle scuole e sui social media.
What is bullying
A widespread problem today is bullying, the phenomenon that occurs among students in schools of education, and which is often underestimated.
When we speak of "bullying" we refer to that repeated and aggressive behavior adopted with the intention of hurting another individual, physically, mentally or emotionally. Bullying can be exercised in an individual way, usually characterized by a person behaving in a certain way to gain power over another person, or group, called bullying. The phenomenon of bullying can develop in different areas and this can include school, family, workplace, home and neighborhoods. Bullying is spreading more and more among young people and the very young and the fertile ground are precisely the schools. The phenomenon consists of a series of bullying, humiliation and psychological torture that one or more boys gathered in "a pack" inflict on their classmates. The protagonists of the phenomenon are bullies, that is, those boys who believe they are superior to others and tend to imitate people, who are negative examples, such as those who do not respect the law and the rules of civil and common life (drug addicts, alcoholics, etc.). This helps to broaden the phenomenon of bullying. Explanations of such behavior sometimes include differences in social class, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, appearance, behavior, etc...
In recent times, many are trying to stem the phenomenon of bullying and cyberbullying with sentences that are an example.
Who are the victims
Bullying arises from a banal teasing, which with time becomes increasingly heavy. Those who are victims of this phenomenon should learn not to give importance to what they are told; they cannot in fact expect, nor desire to "please" everyone, or rather, that everything we do is shared by others. The important thing is to be confident: this is not an easy thing to put into practice; everyone has their own personality and character. There are those who fail to give importance to the judgment of others and the opinions of others and those who make a problem of it. People who are more shy and introverted certainly have more difficulty accepting themselves and accepting the judgment of others, which is why they are more fragile subjects and easily become victims of bullies. The "timid" cannot immediately overcome the offense suffered but rather suffer it, with all the consequences that this entails. It seems unthinkable that in 2022 there are still people who with their mockery and ridicule can ruin someone’s life, and yet it is just like that. For those who are bullied, the days become sadder, gray and heavy, just like depression, these people stop living in society and become recluses. It becomes a nightmare. Bullying is not a sign of strength but of weakness. If a guy beats, threatens or annoys another person he does so to feel stronger and to show others the superiority he does not have. The bully behaves this way, hiding behind his real problems. There are several solutions through which adults can help children who are victims of bullying. However, it becomes difficult if the latter do not tell and outsource what happens to them. Only in this way can the necessary measures be taken to stem the problem before it becomes too late, by dealing with it both in the family and at school.
Who are the bullies
The bully is the example of a boy or a girl who is more sympathetic, better at activities that include the use of physical strength, more cunning and engaging, as opposed to the "good guy", who believes in positive values, such as friendship, the study and the family, which is precisely bullied and classified as a "loser", painted as a type of routine, boring, monotonous and, perhaps, even a little crazy. Bullying is widespread especially in certain bad neighborhoods of large cities, where violence is daily seen. There are boys who every day require a lace of a few euros to buy snacks or other, and the child victim of the bully tends to detach more and more from the school to become closed in on himself and, most often, it is not considered by teachers and family. In certain areas of our country, bullying is a subject you learn in the streets or to imitate your parents. In particularly industrialized countries, bullying is part of everyday life, as well as in some schools, students are searched meticulously to prevent them from carrying knives, firearms, etc. In recent years the phenomenon is increasing rapidly, for this reason it is subject to specific interventions, by school staff and child psychologists, aimed at solving the problem. Often the phenomenon depends on the poor authority of the parent, too fed by affection and tenderness. To solve the problem of bullying, the school and the family must contribute to the reconstruction of a clean society, each playing its own role. Another fundamental stage for a society without bullying is education to values and to civil and democratic coexistence, which must be lived daily starting from the little things.
Different types of bullying
The study of bullying showed that there are different types of bullying. This phenomenon can manifest itself in the form of non-verbal, verbal or physical violent behavior.
- Physical individual bullying: Individual bullying tactics are performed by a single person against one or more victims. Physical bullying is any type of action that affects someone’s body or ruins their assets. In physical bullying the tool used by the bully is the body or an object used to attack the victim. Physical bullying can intensify over time and can lead to a harmful ending for the targeted person;
- Verbal Individual Bullying: Verbal bullying is one of the most common types of bullying. This is "violence" conducted through the use of speech or some form of body language and does not involve any physical contact. Verbal bullying consists in assigning dismissive nicknames, threatening someone, yelling or talking to someone in a rude tone of voice, mocking and insulting without a reason;
- Cyberbullying: it consists in the use of technology to annoy, intimidate another person. When an adult is involved you can talk about cyberstalking and it is a crime that can have legal consequences. Cyber bullying includes bullying via the use of email, social networks and websites; Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology that includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat and websites. Examples: mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.
- Collective bullying: Collective bullying strategies are used by more than one individual against one or more victims. Collective bullying is called "mobbing" and is widespread.
