I’m going to talk about Naples because I think that it is one of the most wonderful cities in the world, in fact its beauty has inspired many song, writers and film directors. Naples has the European largest historic centre which is listed by UNESCO as a world Heritage Site and there are many historical buildings and monuments in medieval, renaissance and Baroques styles. There are a lot of historical churches too, in fact the Catholicism is highly important for the people. The main church is the Cathedral of Naples, where every year on 19th September the Miracles of San Gennaro, the city’s Saint patron, is celebrated. In this day many Neapolitans flock to witness the blood of San Gennaro to turn from solid into liquid Another beautiful place to visit is Napoli Sotterranea, situated under the historic centre, where one can see lots of catacombs. There are a lot of squares, the most important is Piazza del Plebiscito situated near the San Carlo Theatre which is the oldest and largest opera house in Italy, and in the nearby there are a lot of famous designer shops . There are many castles too (like Castel dell’Ovo, Castel Sant’Elmo and Maschio Angioino) and museums: the most famous is the museum of Capodimonte (famous for the porcelain factory) where major works by artists such as Raffaello, Caravaggio and Simone Martini can be seen . Also the port is very big and busy from where you can take ferries to Capri and Ischia . In recent years the international competition of boat sails, the America’s cup, has taken place. Naples is internationally famous for its cuisine and wine , and it is also synonymous of pizza, which originated in the city. Pizza at beginning was a meal for the poor, but it become famous after that Queen Margherita visited the city (in fact the name is in honour of her). The main ingredients of this pizza are basil, tomatoes, olive oil and mozzarella. Other popular symbols of the city are the comic Pulcinella, and many pastries such as sfogliatella, The pastier, which is an Easter cake, and the very famous Babà, which is a cake made with ruhm,. I like cooking very much and I’m a good cook, but I prefer making cakes to other recipes because I’m very greedy. Football is the most popular sport in Naples, It is popular at every level of society, from street children to wealthy professionals. The city’s main football club is SSC Napoli, which plays its home games at the San Paolo Stadium in Fuorigrotta. The team plays in the Serie A League and has won the Italian Football Championship twice, the Coppa Italia a few times and the Super Coppa once also thanks to Diego Armando Maradona, who is the best football player of all time. I’m a big supporter of this team and I hope that we’ll win the Championship again! The Neapolitan song is based on several centuries of history. Among the oldest events are popular dances of the Neapolitan Tarantella, called Tammurriata. The neapolitan classic song /developed between 800 and 900. It became very popular in Italy thanks to artists such as Murolo and Caruso, who are icons of Neapolitan music in the world. Many singers and musicians have continued the Neapolitan music such as Bocelli, Modugno, Lucio Dalla and Pavarotti. Unfortunately, in Naples the rate of pollution is very high and you can find litter everywhere, but the biggest problem is about Camorra (which is the local mafia) ditching toxic and radioactive materials from other Italian regions and European countries. In fact they bury litter in derelict land by digging big holes where the trucks at night, pour the waste and then cover them. Despite the several damages to the environment and people, the problem is still not considered but luckly lots of associations have arisen that struggle to solve this problem.
