London's markets

Markets are very important part of London's life and reflect its history and traditions as well as its great diversity. There is something for everyone!
You can find covered, outdoor and street markets. Many sell particular types of goods or different things on different days. They open very early in the morning and close early or late afternoon.
The most famous markets are probablye Portobello Road and Petticoat Lane. They are the most crowded and many people from different countries walk among their stalls and small shops. There are many antiquarians and junk dealers. You can find used clothes, odd hats and many other strange things. Almost everything is for sale at a very low price.
Covent Garden is one of the most popular tourist attractions; for much of its existence it was a fruit, flower and vegetable market, the largest in England. In 1974 it was moved to another site. It became a pedestrianised square with open-air cafés, stylish shops, small art galleries, restaurants, stalls, and street entertainers.
Camden Market, in the north of London, is a lively market, popular especially with young people. Here there is a wide variety of items including clothing, music and jewellery.
If it is food that you're looking for, then one of the best food markets in the city is Leadenhall Market which sells fresh food, including cheese, meat and fish. It is a covered market and its ornate roof structure, painted green, maroon and cream, and cobbled floors make the building a tourist attraction.
Brick Lane Market is a London market centred around Brick Lane. Almost anything can be found there, from antique books to ornaments. A large part of its charm is the possibility of strange discoveries.
An important thing to remember when you visit a market in London, is that it is best to get there early so that you have a good chance of finding a bargain.
