We use SOME in questions if we expect people to answer 'Yes', or want to encourage them to say 'Yes' - for example in offers and requests. Example: Would you like some more meat?
We use ANY in affirmative clauses to emphasise the idea of free choice, with the meaning of 'it doesn't matter who/which/what'. Example: You can ask me any question(s) you like.
17) Present Simple: use, definitions and examples: PRESENT SIMPLE is used to express habits, general truth, repeated actions or unchanging situations, emotions and wishes; to give instructions or directions; to express fixed arrangements, present or future. Example: I smoke; I work in London; London is a large city. The present tense is the base of the verb, but with the third person singular (she/he/it). We add an -s. Example: Mark works in London.
18) Defining relative clauses: use, definitions and examples: Relative clauses identify or classify noun: they tell us which person or thing, or which.
kind of person or thing, is meat. Thes clauses are called defining relative clauses.Example: He's the man who saw an alien. 19) What sort of meanings do modals give to other verbs? A modal verb verb expresses an opinion or attitude about a possibile fact or to control a possible action. All modal expressions are about the speaker's or writer's view of the world. 20) Write some basic grammatical rules applying to modal verbs: Modal verbs need to be accompanied by another (main) verb; they are all followed by the base form of the verb without the addition of to; they have same form for all subjects. 21) What are "modal auxiliary verbs"? Modal auxiliary verbs provide additional information about the verb that follows it. 22) How do you form the present perfect simple? When do you use it? Explain it in 70-80 words: the present perfect simple is formed with the auxiliary have/has followed by the past participle of the main verb. There are two kinds of past participle inEnglish: Regular (ends in -ed) such as visited, received, Irregular (different form) such as spoken, eaten. While in Italian the auxiliary verb for the tense can be also the verb to be, in English we must use only the verb to have. Example: Have you ever been to London? We use the present perfect to talk about an action happened in the past which has a connection with the present. Example: Kim has lost her wallet. Present perfect is used to say that you have never done something or that you haven't done something. Present perfect simple tense is used with some particular time expressions, such as just, already, still, yet, ever/never, still, yet, already (adverbs of frequency). They go in "mid-position". Example: Have you already studied? Yet usually goes at the end of a clause. Example: The postman hasn't come yet. 23) Present perfect simple vs past simple: what is the difference? Past simple is used to refer to definite time in the past (when weSpecify the time or how long) and usually with past time expressions such as yesterday, two weeks ago, last year, in 1995. Etc… Present perfect is used to talk about time up to now, that is, events that took place in the past but which connect with the present. The present perfect is often used with time expressions which indicate time up to now, for example today, this year, in the last six months, etc..
24) List the parts of speech in English and explain what they are:
- Noun: a noun is a naming word. It names a person, place, thing, idea, action or quality;
- Verb: a verb is a word that describes an action (doing something) or a state (being something);
- Adverbs: an adverb is a word which usually describes a verb. It tells you when/how/where something happened;
- Adjective: an adjective is a word that describes a noun;
- Pronoun: a pronoun is used instead of a noun;
- Conjunction: a conjunction joins two words or sentences together;
- Preposition: a preposition shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence.
A preposition is a word which usually goes before a noun/pronoun or noun-phrase. It basically joins the noun to some other parts of the sentence.
An interjection is an unusual kind of word. It usually stands alone and expresses emotion or surprise. Interjections are usually followed by exclamation marks.
An article is used to introduce a noun. It can be definite or indefinite.
