On-line learning can be a very useful and convenient experience for those who don't have the possibility of physically attending college or a particular course.
I have never experienced on-line learning, apart from a short series of guitar lessons which I followed some years ago, but if I had the chance I really would like to.
In the first place, this type of learning is really convenient because you don't have to move from home, but you can follow the lesson comfortably sitting on the couch.
Moreover, it less expensive than attending university, sometimes it's even free, and that is one of its most important characteristics, due to the fact that not everybody has the economic resources needed to pay college.
This way, a wider number of people across the world can continue their studies, obtain certifications or specialize in something useful to their job.
Certainly, one must be careful to choose which on-line course to follow, because some may not be of high quality, and the quality-prize ratio is fundamental.
I think that also for the teachers on-line teaching is convenient, because they don't have to talk in front of a large number of students and dealing with all sorts of problem that can derive from that. For example they don't have to worry about having to give further explanations to those who didn't understand, they could just do it with an email, or they wouldn't have to get nervous because of students chatting between them in class.
To sum up, it is my feeling that on-line courses are on of the most advantageous ways of learning, especially for people who don't have the possibility of doing it phisically.
