IN DECEMBER 1985 two brothers Louis and Auguste Lumière invented the Cinèmatographe, an apparatus that took, printed and projected film. They gave their first show of projected pictures in Paris. In 1889 Thomas Edison invented the Kinetoscope, it took a series of instantaneous photographs. Initially there were technical difficulties in synchronizing images with sound. Film become sounded only after “The Jazz singer” in 1927. So to continue, in most countries inter titles came to be used to provide dialogues and narration for the film.
Experimentation with sound film technology both for recording and playback, was virtually constant throughout the silent era, but the problems had been difficult to overcome. In 1926, Warner Bros started to introduce short films of live entertainment acts and public figures. They added recorded sound effects and orchestral scores to some of its major features. During 1927 Warner released “The Jazz singer” which was mostly silent but contained the first synchronized dialogue. The 90s saw the development of independent cinema in the USA, and was also dominated by special effects. In 1994 animated films aimed at family audiences with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King. The Giffoni Film Festival, which takes place every year in Giffoni Valle Piana, a little village in the surroundings of Salerno, not far from here is followed by thousands of students. It has been going on since 1971 when Claudio Gubitosi had the idea of promoting and developing movies for young people. Two years ago our teacher wanted to takes us, but unfortunately when she applied , they had already closed the bookings. Even though the festival is held in south Italy it attract people from all over Europe. Every year the Giffoni presents new films and lots of students from all different Italian schools , middle school, and high school , go there to assist and judge films by voting after seeing them. I think that the best judges for movies for young people are young people themselves. Students get also the opportunity to meet their favourite international actors. Last summer my favourite actor came to the festival but I couldn’t’ go because I had to prepare an exam. If I had had more time I would have gone , but this summer , as I will have more time I might go with my best friend. When I went to the cinema for the first time I was 5 years old and I saw “come cani e gatti”. I loved that film because I like very much films where I can see animals. From when I was 5 I went many more times to the cinema, first with my family and then with my friends. last week I went to see Iron man 3 . I like science-fiction films like the avengers, avatar, and much moreHarry Potter is a series of seven films that have accompanied me during my growth. I remember the first time that saw Harry Potter, I was only 7 years old and my father used to take me to the cinema on a Monday afternoons. After the films my father always asked me whether I liked the film or not in order to encourage conversation. For the entire week I asked him for a wand and today I still think of the Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Every time I enter a station I just look around hoping to find Platform 9¾. , in other words I still pretend to be a little naive girl I think that my life wouldn’t have been the same without Harry Potter and for that I thank J.K.
