Primo periodo ipotetico del Condizionale

Nelle frasi ipotetiche si usa il Simple Past per indicare il congiuntivo (imperfetto-passato), ma viene adoperato solo nelle frasi affermative o negative non in quelle interrogative.
Alcuni esempi di frasi ipotetiche:
Se piovesse (simple past), non verremmo (condizionale presente). If it rained, we wouldn’t come. Da non confondere con il future. Es. Se pioverà (simple present), non verremo (future).
If it rains, we won’t come.
Se venisse a scuola più spesso, imparerebbe l’inglese. If he came to school more often, he should/’d learn English.
Mangerei un gelato se non fossi* a dieta. I’d eat an ice cream, if were not/weren’t on diet.
*(solo quando è congiuntivo del verbo to be anche la 1° e 3° pers. sing. Si mette were al posto di was).
Berreste la birra se doveste* guidare? Would you drink beer, if you had to drive? * dovere = must (si usa al presente ma non per il simple past, il futuro e il passato. In questi casi si usa sempre il verbo have al posto di must).
Io dovrò prendere quel treno (futuro). I’ll have (dovere) to take that train.
Ascolteremmo quella musica se ci piacesse*. We would listen to that music, if we liked it. * like (regge il complement diretto) invece nella frase inter-negativa diventa questa frase: Ascolteremmo quella musica se non ci piacesse? Would we listen to that music, if we didn’t like it?
