New York is an exciting city because it has a multiracial population with many different traditions, cultures, lifestyles.
The population grew because millions of immigrants came from Europe and Asia to settle in the new world and New York quickly became the busiest city in America.
Manhattan is divided into other smallers areas: Little Italy, China Town, Chinese quartier, Greenwich Village and area of musicians and artists. New York is also exciting because of it’s architecture, due to the first skyscraper in the world. As Manhattan lies on a narrow piece of land, the area grew vertically with the building of a lot of skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building, the Rockefeller Center and the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center consisted of two 110 storey office towers. The W.T.C. buildings were New York’s tallest skyscraper. At peak periods of constructions some 3500 workers were on the site daily. On 11th September 2001, The Twin Towers were obliterated in an horrific sequence of crashes and collapses. The W.T.C. was the epicentre of a coordinated terrorist attack that included another direct hit on the Pentagon and crashed jet in Pennsylvania. At 8.45 am , American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the face of north tower of the W.T.C., about 20 storeys below the top of the building. At 9.03 am, the second hijacket jet streaked into the south tower, sending a fireball out the other side. At 9.50am, the south tower collapsed as floors caved onto one another. Then, at 10.29am ,the north tower collapsed too.
