There are different types of cooking utensils used in the kitchen and some are:

1. Glass - some are made to withstand heat while others cannot withstand heat. It is used for making ovenwares, top-of-range wares, table wares, bowls, measuring cups, etc. it can be washed in hot soapy water, rinsed with hot water and drip dried.

2. Plastic ware - it is available in various colours and qualities, they scratch easily, some tend to retain odour, oil stain and colour, they are light in weight, they cannot withstand high temperature. It is used for producing bowls, buckets, tablewares, trays, measuring cups, dustbins, etc. wash with warm soapy water, rinse in cold water and dry with dish cloth.

3. Wood - wood can be plain, painted or varnished. It is used for making mortar and pestle, spoons, forks, spatula trays, rolling pins, chopping boards, bread boards etc. it is expected to wipe vanished wood with dry clean cloth. Wash plain and painted wood with warm, soapy water. Rinse with cold water, dry thoroughly and air properly. Plain wood can be scrubbed along the grain.

4. Earthen ware - it is porous and it is poor conductor of heat; it take time to get heated. It is used for making cooking pots, water pots, jugs, cooler etc. wash with soapy water for cleansing and rinse with warm water. Dry with soft clean cloth.
