Today Rimini is the largest beach resort in Europe. The beach of Rimini's Riviera is a forty-kilometre-long expanse of fine sand which hosts an array of colourful beach umbrellas. Rimini's old quarter, by contrast, is pleasantly quiet. Rimini's finest building is the Tempio Malatestiano, built as a Franciscan church but converted in 1450 by the architect Leon Battista Alberti into one of Italy's great Renaissance monuments.

Bellaria, Cesenatico, Igea Marina, Cattolica, Misano Adriatico, Riccione and Rimini are the most famous seaside resorts of the surrounding area, and are known all over Europe for their compelling beaches, colourful beach umbrellas and sunbeds, comfortable showers and beach huts, well-stocked bars and restaurants, skilled life guards and even swimming pools and jacuzzis. Excellent services and facilities and very modern equipment make the lidos of Rimini's Riviera the most famous beaches in the world. Children have the opportunity to play under the supervision of skilled entertainers, while their parents can rest and enjoy complete relaxation. The beach is the ideal holiday destination for sports lovers. The local bathing establishments are provided with well-equipped beach tennis, beach football and beach volly courts. Ravenna and its beaches are situated within a short driving distance from Mirabilandia, the largest funfair in Romagna. It offers visitors a fun and thrilling experience, while enjoying spectacular attractions, amazing shows and events, interesting educational programmes and funny characters.

What to eat

Emilia Romagna is Italy's gourmet capital, and home to Parmesan, Parma ham, balsamic vinegar and the piadina. Pasta is an art form here. Tagliatelle and tortellini pasta are well known all over the world.
