It stressed:

* importance of nature (Pantheistic vision = a communion with God);
* exaltation of the child and the savage who are not corrupted by society;
* exaltation of imagination;
* interest in the past, in particular Middle Age.
The poet was a sort of Prophet, a link between common man and God.
Poetry had to: communicate in a simple way and be understood by every one; stress the importance of Nature, that was a place in which man could find himself again and escape from the ugliness of the Industrial society.
In England Romanticism started with the publication of the Lyrical Ballads, written by Wordsmorth and Coleridge.
