Joyce - Works and style

Joyce wrote four books:
1. Dubliners;
2. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man;
3. Ulysses;
4. Finnegans Wake.
Each one has a complety different style from the others, in fact the style of Joyce is prossive: Dubliners coincides with the easy Joyce, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man isnt’t so easy to read, Ulysses is difficult and Finnegans Wake is impossible. It’s difficult to read Joyce’s works because he was s a sperimental writer: he hadn’t a normale approch to write, so the readers should have a new approch to read.

He wrote only about Dublin, the city where he was born and grown up.

Dublin was the capital of Ireland and the second most important city of the British Empire. It was also an important cultural centre, in fact in Dublin were born Swift, Stocker and Wilde.
No writers before him have written about Dublin: Joyce wanted that Dublin becomes a piece of the culture of humans. He also loved Italy and its heroes, such as Giordano Bruno, one of the first men who understand that the world is composed by infinites universes, so it has no centre. The centre of the world can only be relative: for Joyce the centre of the universe was Dublin.
Bruno also said that it’s not possibile to understand the reality from only one point of view. It is necessary a multiperspectivity. Joyce, having been influenced by Bruno, will represent Dublin from many points of view.
