- Speed dating is a modern method for young, busy professionals to meet potential partners in a time-efficient manner.
- Originating in America, speed dating events gather numerous men and women in one room for brief, structured interactions.
- Participants wear numbered badges and engage in three-minute conversations, switching partners when a bell rings.
- Attendees use cards to indicate interest in a person by marking "yes" or "no" after each mini-date.
- If mutual interest is expressed, participants receive each other's email addresses after the event to continue contact.
In the world:
Young people working long hours don’t have many opportunities to meet and get to know each other. But now they can meet up in a different way. It’s called speed dating and it started in America. Of course! Speed dating is an organised event where lots of men and women gather in one room to talk. But they only have three minutes per person!
Last Wednesday I went speed dating. There were 150 smartly dressed people. We can put on a badge with a number.
Then the women sat at tables and the men came to talk to us. After three minutes a bell rang, and the men had to join their next “mini-date”.
We each had s card and decided if we would like the persona gain by ticking a “yes” or “no” box.
It was boring saying, “where are you from?” or “what do you?” so I asked questions like , “If you go out in the evening, where do you go?” I really enjoyed myself – it felt safe and it was fun.
And I met 30 men in an hour! There were all sorts of men includine a chef, a builder, and novelist.
I managed to tick six “yes” boxes. If the people you ticked chose you as well, you received email addresses two days later.
And how many addresses did I get?
That’s my secret!
