The population of the USA is very Across the USA many typical town and cities are characterised by different neighbourhoods with their own cultural identity. Sometimes these neighbourhoods are known as ghettos. This word is usually used to describe poorer neighbourhoods which have a large population and ocial problems. The biggest ghettos in the United States are Harlem in New York and South Side in Chicago. They are inhabited by African-Americans.

The presence of so many different cultures can cause problems. Sometimes there is violence and tension between different races and among gangs of youths. This means that many rich people do not want to live in the centre of the cities but prefer to live in the suburbs where life is calmer and safer.

In the early years in the country there were problems between the white settlers and the native American indians and also with the African slaves. Even after slavery ended there were still problems and many laws were created to segregate black people.

He tried to make people understand that black and white people were the same and should be treated equally. In April 1968 he was assassinated but his sacrifice led to changes in the law and greater equality for African-Americans.
