Theatres and plays in the Elizabethan had great popularity. Many pubblic and private theatres were founded. And in this period lived one of the most famous writers of the world: Williams Skakespeare (1564-1616). He wrote 38 plays and 150 sonnets. Among his most famous plays were: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Othello and Macbeth.
Romeo and Juliet
set in Verona Romeo and Juliet focuses on the story of two lovers. They fall in love, but their families are bitter enemies .after they have got married secretly, Romeo kills Juliet's cousin in a duel and he must leave Verona. Meanwhile Juliet, who must marry another man, takes a sleeping potion and appears to be dead. Her parents ,lay her in a tomb. When Romeo goes back to Verona, he goes to the Capulet vault where he finds Juliet. He thinks that she's dead, but instead she is asleep. He kills himself. When Juliet finally wakes up and finds Romeo dead, she kills herself.
Hamlet
To be on not be, that is the question. This famous quotation is from the drama Hamlet. Prince Hamlet is the son of the King of Denmark. His father died two months before. Hamlet meets his father's ghost who tells him that he was killed by his brother Claudius. Now Claudius is married to Hamlet's mother. Hamlet pretends to be mad and takes his revenge by killing the people responsible for his father's death. At the end Hamlet himself dies.
