These clauses can be ordered the other way round with no change of meaning: "I will stay home if it rains" says the same thing as "If it rains, I will stay home." But when the 'if' clause comes first, a comma is usually placed after it for clarity.

The first kind of conditional relates to the facts and beliefs regarding the likeliest happenings in the future. It is commonly used in promises, threats, or warnings. In "If you study hard, you will pass the exam," a person gets encouraged to try their best in studying and is referred to as someone whose efforts will give them a favorable result.

Consequences and recommendations in the First Conditional

On the other hand, the second variety of the first conditional intimates a consequence for failing to act: "If you don't complete your work, you'll be in trouble." On the other hand, the first conditional can also be used to make recommendations or offers, like in "If you need help, I will assist you," when assistance is given with the understanding that it will be necessary. With this pattern here, depending on the listener's situation, it suggests that the speaker is already ready.
