Tempi Verbali

1) Simple Present: (soggetto + am/are/is) per azioni abituali, al presente;

2) Simple Past: (soggetto + ...ed/irregolare) azioni concluse, nel passato;

3) Present Continuous: (soggetto + ...ing) azioni che si stanno svolgendo in questo momento;

4) Present Perfect: (Soggetto + have/has + ...ed/irregolare) azioni passate ma che hanno ancora ripercussioni sul presente (o azione appena conclusa);

5) Present Perfect Continuous: (soggetto + have/has + been + ...ing) periodo non definito del passato. La persona che parla sta pensando a qualcosa che è stato iniziato, ma che forse non è ancora terminato in quel determinato periodo di tempo;

6) Past Perfect: (soggetto + had + ...ed/irregolare) per definire un evento che si è verificato prima di un altro evento nel passato;

7) Past Perfect Continuous: (soggetto + had + been + ...ing) come il present perfect continuous, ma si riferisce ad un tempo anteriore al momento attuale;

8) Simple

Future: (will + infinito) si riferisce ad azioni che accadranno in un tempo futuro ed esprime in modo neutro fatti o certezze;

Future Continuous: (will be + …ing) si riferisce a un'azione o a un evento che sarà in corso di svolgimento nel futuro;

Past Continuous: (was/were + …ing) esprime un'azione che è percepita come incompleta o ancora in corso nel passato.

Modali (seguiti sempre dall'infinito)

• Must: obbligo personale dovere;
• Have to: obbligo ma impersonale es. codice stradale;
• Should = ought to: (dovresti) per dare consigli;
• Can: saper fare qualcosa, chiedere un permesso / se la capacità è specifica es. I'm able to;
• Could: passato di can / condizionale di can (potresti);
• Need to: avere bisogno;
• May / might / could: (potere) -> al presente sono intercambiabili

Per fare cortesia May è il più formale / invece per cortesia might non esiste
