When his mother scarified herself to save him from Voldemort’s spell, such spell rebounded against him who had pronounced it. As a result, Harry bore a scar on his forehead and Voldemort disappeared, apparently dead.
The Beginning of His Adventure at Hogwarts
When he came of age to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, Harry learned the truth about himself and his parents. From the first moment of school he met, and later became very close friend to, Hermione and Ron. Together with them he attended seven years of school, corresponding to the seven books of the Saga. During the first three books (years) they somehow face the attempts of Voldemort’s to regain his powers, until he returns to flesh and bones at the end of the forth book. With the help of Albus Dombledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts, Harry will learn that Voldemort is immortal until all the seven fragments of his soul, which he has split over repeated murders, have been destroyed. His search of the Horocruxes, the objects in which these fragments have been hidden, begins and one by one Harry and his friends manage to destroy them. When Harry understands that he himself is the last Horocrux, he allows Voldemort to kill him, but thanks to the help of the Deathly Hallows, magical legendary objects that allow their master to control death, he comes back to life and defeats Voldemort for good.
