Meeting at the tavern

Three young men sit in an inn, eating and drinking.

They see the passing of a coffin adn ask who has died.

A servant tells them that the death man was a friend who was stabbed in back the night befre by a thief called Death.
They decide to seek him out and kill him. On the way, the three men meet an old man who explains that he must wander until he finds someone who wants to exchange his youth for his old age. Hearing him speak of Death, the boys ask him where they can find Death, and the old man directs them to a tree at the end of the street.

The treasure and the betrayal

They run to the tree and find gold coins. They decide to wait for night to move the gold. The youngest of the three leaves the others and goes to take wine and bread. The teo others decide to kill him and divide his money. The youngest, however, wanting the treasure to himself, buys some poison and adds it to two of the three bottles of wine. When the youngest comes back to the tree, he is killed by the two others. They sit down and drink the poisoned wine.

Thus, all three find Death.
