“The Child” – Fiona Barton
"The Child" is a psychological thriller written by Fiona Barton.
The theme behind the novel is the relationship between mothers and daughters.
The pretext is the finding, on a construction site, of the tiny skeleton of a newborn. The same event is told by three main narrators, in order to ensure a narration that is characterized by different points of view.
The three protagonists (and the main narrators, alternating in telling the story) are:
- Kate Waters.
- Angela is a woman who many years ago stole the newly born babe from the cradle in the hospital. Angela always thinks of that child, her son, who has not had the chance to really know
- Emma is a very vulnerable woman who suffers from anxiety and depression and has a tormented relationship with Jude mother from whom she has been abandoned.
The book combines an intense noir plot with a special analysis of the relationship between mothers and children. The author has also demonstrated with this second job of knowing how to make a perfect, faceted thriller and knowing with profoundly investigating the human soul.
