"Used to" is used to express habitual actions that occurred regularly in the past, no longer happening now.
It replaces the past tense to indicate past habits or situations that no longer occur.
The structure involves the subject followed by "used to" and the base form of the verb.
For expressing being accustomed to something, use "be/get used to" with the verb in the -ing form.
"Used to" cannot describe situations that happened only once.

Used to si usa:
-per esprimere azioni abituali che avvenivano regolarmente nel passato:

ES:

I used to eat a lot of sweets.
Mangiavo molte caramelle.

-al posto del passato che esprime situazioni o abitudini passate che non si verificano più:
ES:

I used to to drive all the time, but now I take the bus.
Ero solito guidare sempre, mentre adesso prendo l'autobus.

Per il primo caso si forma con il soggetto seguito da used e dal verbo all'infinito preceduto dal to.

ES:

I remember when we used to sit ...

Ricordo quando eravamo soliti sedere ...

I used to play golf when I was young.
Giocavo a golf regolarmente quando ero giovane.

Nel secondo caso, invece, al soggeto si fa seguire il verbo essere be e/o get, used, la preposizione to, ed infine il verbo alla forma in ing.

ES:

I am used to living alone.
Sono abituato a vivere da solo.

She isn't used to this food.
Non e' abituata a mangiare questo cibo.

She get used to italian food.
Si deve abituare al cibo italiano.

She is getting used to cooking italian food.
Si sta' abituando al clima italiano.

She will get used to eating spanish food.
Si abituera' a mangiare cibo spagnolo.

She got used to living alone.
Dovette abituarsi a vivere da sola.

-Non si può usare Used to se la situazione si è verificata una sola volta.
