Walt Disney (1901-1966) was born in Chicago, US. He studied art and later went to Hollywood where he started Disney Studios with his brother, Roy.
He soon began making cartoon films. He first “talkie” cartoon was Steamboat Willie in which Mickey Mouse appeared. His first full cartoon film was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He then made other cartoon films, including Pinocchio, Lady and the Tramp, Alice in Wonderland and 101 Dalmatians.

Non-Cartoon Films and Innovations

Disney also made a number of non-cartoon films, such as Twenty Thousand Leagues under the sea. Mary Poppins was an experiment in mixing cartoons with real actors. Disney’s nature films include The Living Desert and The Vanishing Prairie.
In 1955 Disney built Disneyland in California, which is a huge amusement park and part museum. Another park, Walt Disney World, opened in Florida in 1971 and the third, Eurodisney, in Paris in 1992.
