Premessa
Definition of “trip”
The word TRIP means a period of time when you are away from home for business or leisure and includes accommodation, transport and activities during the time, for example “a ten-day trip to Africa”.
It is not the same as the word “travel”, which is a general term for the act or activity of travelling. It is the act of going to another place (often for a short period of time) and returning.
Sometimes people think that “trip”, “travel”, “journey” and “voyage” have the same meaning, but they are really different.
The word “travel” is more general and means going to another place, the word “journey” represents one piece of travel (going from one place to another), usually a long distance, and the word “voyage” means a long journey, especially by sea or in space.
Tour operators and people working in tourism must have an exactly “destination” for their products, and this could be translated as target.
Target tourism
Target tourism is tourism which has developed with a specific clientele or specific needs in mind.
There are many categories of people and needs, and they depend on age, social group, lifestyle, ethnicity and gender.
Some categories are:
- Young people and children, who may be interested in adventure, sports and study holidays. An example of a study holiday could be a trip in England for an Italian to improve his English;
- People over 60, who prefer coach tours, cultural holidays or special interest holidays. They prefer foreign destination;
- Families. Holidays for families aim to take the pressure off the parents while also ensuring that children enjoy themselves in a safe and stimulating environment. For this reason, they choose the resort as accommodation;
- Over 25s, who want holidays free from the noise and the bustle that young children, teenagers and young adults bring with them;
- People travelling alone;
- People looking for environmentally friendly holidays;
- People interested in a specific sport or hobby;
- People wanting to use their holidays to get back into shape;
- People wanting to combine their holidays with their wedding.
