  • Quando il complemento d'agente (soggetto nella forma attiva) è sconosciuto e quindi non si sa chi sia oppure perchè ritenuto ovvio perciò poco importante:

    esempio: Jane was shot = non sappiamo chi le ha sparato

    He has been arrested = ovviamente è stato arrestato dalla polizia

  • per fornire dichiarazioni o indicazioni formali ed eleganti:

    esempio: The car hasn't been cleaned (you haven't cleand the car)= situazione "gentile" in cui si avvisa che l'auto non è The goods have have been delieved (we have delieved the goods)= situazione formale

    • Importance of the action on the agent

  • quando l'azione è più importante dell'agente:

    esempio: 30 people were killed inn the earthquake.

  • dare importanza all'agente:
