Invention of the World Wide Web
After the university he worked on computer in Geneva. He invented Internet in 1989 in a famous laboratory: the CERN. He wrote the first web client and server in 1990.
Today he is the director of the World Wide Web Consortium, an organisation that develops technologies (software, guidelines and tools) to lead the web to its full potential. He is also the director of the Web Scienze Research, the founder of the World Wide Web Foundation and a member of the MIT Center of the Collective Intelligence.
In 2004 Berners – Lee was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his pioneering work. In April 2009 he was elected a foreign associate of the United States National Academy of Sciences and in 2009, during the Summer Olympics opening ceremony, he was honoured as the inventor of the “World Wide Web”.
