- Darwin explored the rainforest, crossed overland much of South America and he went to Buenos Aires, where a civil war stopped him until the end of 1833. He rode intoo the interior to explore geology and collect fossils.
- In March the Beale was able to leave again, Darwin visited the Falkland Islands and then he passed the Strait of Magellan. He experienced the terrible earthquake in Chile. High in the Andes he saw seashelles and several fossil trees that had grown on a sand beach.
- On 15th October the Beagle sailed to Galápagos Islands. There he studied carefully the finches. On the different islands he found 13 species, very similar to each other but different in shape and size of the beak.
- Darwin’s journey continued to Tahiti and New Zealand.
