Between 1820 and 1821 he wrote the lyrics 'ode to the west wind', 'to a skylark', 'the cloud' and the dramatic poem 'Prometheus unbound'(in this last work the poet is compared with Prometheus: the poet has the fire of his ideas that conditions the poem). He was a radical who rebelled against all forms of cruelty, authority and tyranny. He believed in the essence of a god, a spiritual divinity for him. He is an outcast and a prophet: he takes the umanity to a world of love and liberty. He is the figure of the wandering Jew because he is insatisfied by the reality.

This poem tells the story of a tempest of hail and rain which influenced the Cisalpine regions, in which the vegetation is influenced by the winds and changes is aspect.
