Concetti Chiave

  • The fear of animals, especially snakes and insects, can be overwhelming and may lead to thoughts of not surviving in certain environments like the countryside.
  • Claustrophobia can cause severe anxiety in closed spaces, such as elevators or during long flights, leading to avoidance of these situations.
  • The fear of open spaces, or agoraphobia, can cause discomfort in areas with vast sky visibility, making city centers more appealing due to a sense of safety.
  • Experiencing anxiety in open spaces can result in panic attacks when faced with wide open areas like parks or mountains.
  • Both fears of animals and open spaces highlight different coping mechanisms and avoidance strategies to deal with phobias.

Fear of Animals

I'd be terrified if I saw a snake I could never go on a safari in a desert I'm really scared of insects and animals in general. I could even die If I saw a mouse in a garden, and I would be shocked if I found a spider or a beetle in my room! I don't know, what would I do if I had a house in the countryside? I probably wouldn't survive!
I don't mind animals and insects, but I do have my phobias. For example, I can't stand being in closed spaces. I'm claustrophobic! I don't know what I would do if I got stuck in a lift for a long time! I would probably cry and ask for help, and if nobody heard me, I might even faint! I think I would lose control completely and panic. That's why I think I'll never take a lift in my life. Even when I fly, I feel I need air and I can't stand long flights. If I had to go to Japan or to a very distant country, I think it would take me a long time because I would only travel by train and by ship!

Fear of Open Spaces

On the contrary, I have the opposite problem! I can't stand open spaces, I really feel sick! If I'm in a place where I can see a lot of sky, I feel really bad. I need to live in the centre of a town surrounded by buildings. It may sound ridiculous, but it is like that, I feel safe with lots of people around. Even when I have to cross a wide space such as a big park or go for open routes in the mountains I have to try not to think about it, otherwise I start panicking!
