Questo materiale didattico si riferisce al corso di Lingua e letteratura anglo-americana II tenuto dal professor Giorgio Mariani. This will be a labor-intensive seminar on one of the masterpieces of world literature, Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. We will analyze the novel closely in terms of both language and structure, and we will also take a look at some of the critical debates it has given rise to. Finally, we will take a moment of relief by reading an interesting Italian attempt to “revive” the Moby Dick-Ahab-Ishmael story: Tiziano Scalvi’s Dylan Dog adventure, Sulla rotta di Moby Dick. Students will also have the opportunity to attend the International Melville Conference from June 22 to June 26, organized by the Melville Society with the support of the “Sapienza” University. Please remember that in order to be a “frequentante” you will have to attend at least 75% of the regular classes.
