Lena, a middle-aged divorced woman, goes to Cambridge with her son Iain who has to start University there. The hotel wasn’t what she had imagined, the negative impression that Lena first gets is confirmed by the state of the hotel lobby. The host, a professor, had invited at dinner a younger professor and two students in their first year at university, who he received in his long johns. Late at night she leaves the hotel because it’s too noisy, there was music and motorbike and she cannot sleep. Unfortunately the new hotel proves no better. Rather annoyed because she cannot sleep, she sits in an armchair waiting for morning.
