The history of England is the story of the gradual settlement and colonisation of the islands,wich then developed into Great Britain.Its prehistoric inhabitants were the dark-haired Iberians. Around 700 BC the fair-or red-haired, blue-eyed Celts began to arrive from noth-west Germany. They were skilled at working iron lived on fishing, hunting and agriculture and they were organised into tribes. The most influential figures inside Celtic society were the Druids, who admnistered religion, justice and the education of the young. The Celts worshipped the natural elements such as the sun,the moon,the trees and the rives,since water was regarded as the holy element wich generates life and as the door to the world after death.
