The Victorian age - Economy and society
The Victorian age took its name from Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901.
There was a period of economically and territorially expansion. In that period free trade became the dominant economic ethos; we can say that Britain had become the most powerful nation in the world.. People tried to find work, and for this reason there was phenomenon of Urbanization (people left fields and went to cities).
So, we can speak of an era full of light and shadow, positive and negative aspects.
Positive: political stability, expansion, industrialization, , growth of middle class
Negative: condition of working..
Urbanization is positive and negative! Positive regarding: increased job opportunities, education centers (i.e. universities), economic development....
negative: decreased urban space, more usage of cars, higher standards of living, more pollution..
